Ritual
A downloadable game for Windows
You and your friend have a cosy little night in planned. Your chosen activity would raise a few eyebrows if anybody found out...
But nobody is going to find out.
It's only a bit of harmless fun.
Nothing could go wrong.
...Could it?
Features:
5 minutes of gameplay
7 endings
Retro early-3D inspired graphics
Tense Action-Horror sequence
Filters and Headbob can be toggled on/off
Multiple control schemes (though not remappable!)
How to play:
WASD - Movement
E / Left Click - Interact / Advance Text
SHIFT - Run
ESC - Open / Close Menu
You can also use the arrow keys instead of a mouse if you prefer, and the game has controller support (tested on a Switch Pro controller) which seems functional(?) and has axis invert options.
If you are a complete psychopath you can use a single Joy-Con with some janky pseudo Metroid-Prime GCN control scheme that is awkward and frustrating. The best thing I can say about it is that it technically works! Enjoy!
About:
Inspired by the Ludum Dare 'Summoning' theme but NOT an entry.
I originally made this as a test to see if I can start a game on Friday night and have something with a playable ending before the end of Sunday, that version only had one ending that I have since fleshed out a little.
Despite the page/logo looking all moody this game doesn't take itself too seriously!
It's only a small, simple game but I hope you enjoy :)
Known Issues:
Some people reported my last game crashing after the end instead of returning to menu. I found out that this is due to some unknown problem exporting / compiling the game. It is hard to thoroughly test so it is possible the issue may be in this game too, but it ONLY occurs *after* finishing so you never lose progress or anything :)
The first time you play, the game can be a bit stuttery on some machines as different asset get loaded in. This shouldn't be a constant problem.
Lastly, tabbing out of the game can cause the cursor to get locked unless you hold down a mouse button if playing with mouse + keyboard. The best thing to do is hit ESC to bring up the menu then close out of the menu again, this will re-focus the mouse and allow normal control. I think this is something to do with the Godot game engine as I have encountered the same problem in other people's games, but I am trying to find a workaround for future :)

Here's my playthrough if anyone would like to see:
Such a Fun Game with So many Endings! Let's Go!
I was watching Manly play this.
I believe I heard a line from either Atmosfear: The Gatekeeper or Nightmare II. I just wanted to thank you for reminding me of those games. :)
This is by far one of the best horror games for atmosphere that I've played in ages. Deffo worth a play. Here's a video I made for the game so if you want to spread the love watch it here.
Great title!
I really enjoyed playing this! I had a blast trying to find all the different endings but I couldn't figure out how to get the last one. Had great replayability since there were so many different endings. I had no complaints.
It's a great game with 7 endings XD. The gameplay is smooth and the story is simple yet gives more horror experiences. On the 7 endings, I felt bad for her friend because she is left out in selected endings.
A very unique game in an oversaturated market. There are a lot of ritual type games on itch, but this was truly unique and the replayability made for a great horror game ! The variety in the endings and the unexpected turns made this amazing all the way through. Very good horror game !
I made a video on your game if you're interested :)loved this so much)
I found it very creepy, scary and fun to play.
Thank you for a great piece of work.
i had fun with this! I found all the endings. I do wish many other endings could've been to ignore your friend. It did take me a few tries to find the last ending. Other than that, good job!
ugh I love these retro graphics so much! There's only ONE thing I would change...BUT I loved this game! Karen kinda crazy tho ngl. This is why I don't fw paranormal stuff xD
Had a great time with this one, really enjoyed going for all of the different endings. Also loved the graphics!
Much appreciated the hints of what to do for a successful ritual in the Grimoire, would have been so lost without it.Well done on this one :) Looking forward to seeing what you may make next!
What is the soundtrack of the beat in the intro?
Hello! The music used was created by a user named 'Rockot' and uploaded to pixabay.com (https://pixabay.com/music/beats-dark-cinematic-ambient-beat-173058/).
I cut a short loop from that file and processed it a little in the game :)
A lot of the files I use were downloaded a long while before I find something to do with them, so I had to do some digging (for my next projects I am taking notes on assets used, so I can credit them more accurately).
alright thank u sm!
Satisfyingly creepy!
I thought “oh, here we go, another multiple endings game” but I had so much fun with this, you just put these small but effective little quirks to each playthrough, our “friend” (I called her ‘Janet’) was deliciously awful and the idea of having different rituals is fantastic. Loved it.
pretty intresting game! Check out my gameplay last part of my 3rg!
Gameplay BR
